TERRIBLE COLLIERY EXPLOSION.

119 MEN KILLED.

LONDON, 15th July.

A terrible colliery explosion took place at an early

hour this morning in a mine near Newport, in Wales.

A large number of men were at work at the time,

and at present it has been ascertained that 119

of these were killed from the effects of the explosion.

It is not known whether any lives have been saved.
